Nvidia HDMI connection to a turned off receiver creates problems

Hello.

My computer has GeForce 430 GT card and it's connected to home theater receiver (Onkyo ht-r390).
If I turn on computer before the receiver there is no picture after receiver is turned on, I have to restart computer.
In addition to that it seems computer changes resolution during that time, because icons on desktop are getting mixed up.

Right now I have to constantly remember to turn on receiver first then computer, not a big deal, but I'd like to find a solution that would not require any special sequence for this.

it sounds like the computer is defaulting to the hdmi output, start the pc with both enabled and then go into graphics settings and then select identify, if your monitor comes up with a 2 on it then it is defaulting to the hdmi.

set your monitor to the primary display and you should have no problems.

This is a HTPC, there is no other monitor connected.
It seem this issue only occur when PC connected to Onkyo receiver, when it connected directly to TV, there is no problems.

Also, what's weird is when this issue occur, unplugging and plugging back HDMI cable doesn't do anything.

i have been reading that there can be many problems with connecting pc's to an AV receiver and that Onkyos seem to have some problems with their hdmi ports and certain capacitors in them going over time which manage the hdmi ports, even other equipment plugged into the hdmi ports will not be detected untill the onkyo has essentially warmed up first and then the other equipment turned on after.

another option i found is to check in the nvidia control panel as to how windows detects a display, make sure it is checked to auto detect displays rather than manually detect them which was another problem i found that was similar and solved for a computer with an ATI graphics card where the display needed to be manually detected.

Did some more tests, connected computer to tv directly via vga port, leaving hdmi connected to Onkyo, with Onkyo turned off started computer, then went to nvidia control panel and looked in multiple monitors section, it showed only one tv. Turned on Onkyo, nothing got detected. Unplugged hdmi cable from Onkyo and plugged it directly into tv - nothing detected.
I'd leave the blame on Onkyo, however the fact that nvidia stops detecting displays on hdmi port is suspicions too.

have you tried different hdmi cables just to rule out a faulty cable?

Yes I have tried different cable - same issue, in fact the other "cheap" cable I've tried makes picture overscanned, meaning it doesn't fit into screen.
