Okay, I am running a great setup here that, to date, I have been extremely pleased with. Rig: Asus Crosshair IV Formula, AMD Thuban X2 6 core 3.2ghz, 8 gig Flares, BD combo, Corsair SSD, Radeon 6870, air cooled. I have been able to run just about everything on maxed out settings until some of the later games like Crysis 3. I am considering a new graphics card for roughly the same price point. Would I be better off with a GTX770 or a Radeon 7970? Like I said I have been extremely happy with my XFX 6870 so I would need convincing to go Nvidia.
Thanks in advance for any and all input.

Ive had good luck with nvidia, their better at putting out well rounded drivers. I get loads of arguments from other forum roamers over this but, I dont know how they can ignore the 3 to 1 driver updates that are WHQL.

other then that nothing else i can contribute.
It all depends on the game you're playing. Some perform better with AMD, others with Nvidia. Don't listen to anyone who gives a blanket statement of telling you one is better than the other in all categories. Do your research, look at charts, etc. Also, just because one card has better FPS in one game doesn't necessarily make it a better card. If you are power conscious, that might be something to take into account as well. The card may perform better, but it may hit your PSU harder.

Cool thanks guys. I did some research and ended up going with an EVGA GTX770. I read that the Nvidia drivers are better and more thoroughly updated and that the overclocking software for the EVGA cards is excellent. Seem to perform similarly and costs about the same as the 7970 if not a smidge more so I took the plunge. I'm curious though what AMD is going to release next as the 7000s are dropping in price pretty dramatically.
Now what the heck to do with an old, used graphics card...
