Hello, first post so thank you in advance for any and all feedback. If this issue has already been answered on the forums, I apologize, please direct me there.

Problem
For approximately 3 weeks I have been attempting to self diagnose and treat my overheating GPU (Nvidia Quadro 4000). My machine recently started crashing during above average use of the GPU (i.e 3D modeling programs, World of Warcraft, League of Legends, Netflix Movies, Sometimes even multiple Adobe Programs with Music playing through Youtube.). All this activity for the passed 4 years has been up until now an insignificant load on my GPU and my GPU temp never read above 75c, even at peak times.

Since my seemingly overnight issue 3 weeks ago, my GPU is now displaying 65c on cold boots after 24+ hours of shut down, 79c as I write this forum post with nothing but my chrome and music playing, and 100-102c when playing games like World of Warcraft in full screen at the absolute lowest graphic settings.

Crash Description
Since I have been tracking heat and GPU usage I have found that my computer crashes at 103c. My monitor goes black and reboots in to idle mode with no display connection. My computer crashes as if during a blue screen and stays running while my sound freezes and loops endlessly through speakers/headphones.

What I have done so far
- Updated card drivers (multiple times)
- Back installed to older driver version (pre-crash version)
- Multiple and thorough canned air cleanings of GPU, GPU fan, all surround parts.
- Ensured maximum flow to entire tower unit. Confirmed all fans are operational.

How am I able to still use computer with GPU at 100c??
I have been forced to remove my 2nd monitor, which caused temps to be too high on boot! I must minimize all programs, no matter their framerate. I am forced to reduce all graphic settings in all programs to lowest levels. I must give my GPU consistent breaks through my usage. By doing all of this, I maintain temps of 80c-95c, if I were to actually play games at real settings that once displayed temps of 63c, it would pump my card to 102+ and crash instantly.

Conclusion
Before my temps were being tracked, I had crashed for some days in a row seemingly overnight, running programs that once never increased my GPU temp so high, so I did not suspect the GPU at first. I initially pursued an extensive series of research looking at posts that described my crash exactly through the League of Legends forums and World of Warcraft forums. Eventually a post described their GPU heat consistently and critically higher than usual seemingly overnight and an immediate discovery after their computer started crashing. This lead me to trying to fix my GPU specifically.

Is my card simply compromised?? Is this software do you suspect? Is this hardware do you suspect? Is the real issue another part that is in affect, causing the critical temps with the GPU?

I had same issues with my quadro 4000.. Nvidia say its normal. Its not its the crap heatsink which is too small for quadro and is prone to clogging with dust.

I sugguest in checking that the heatsink fins are not full off dust. Take the front panel off and you will see straight away if it is (left of the of the fan).

If its clear I sugguest you do what i did last weekend. Buy the Artic accelero twin turbo III. Mine cost £30 of amazon, Even though the quadro 4000 is not listed in compatable cards.. it is as the layout is almost the same as nvidia gtx 480. Just make sure you have enough space in your case. It takes up two slots and sits about an inch of the top of your card (So make sure your side panel wouldnt touch it if it was installed).
Was fed up with my temps so followed n220's comments/images on this thread.

I ran the Pscore from Kombustor benchmark before i upgraded and its cooled by half of the orginal temp, 40c drop! before / after

Was my first GPU Mod but my god was it worth it, I no longer need to use MSI afterburner from stopping it from overheating..

Hope this helps,

Griff
