nVidia QuadroFX for games?

Hi,

I need some informations about the quadroFX series and games.

Are the quadroFX series better (faster) than the 'default' nvidia series
(because they're more for professional use (cad, ...))?

Is there a good website for quadroFX benchmarks with games and other
graphicboards?

Quadros are more for legacy rendering, not realtime rendering.

They can do it, I just don't think it will be as good as if you had a
Geforce.

The drivers control performance in this area, since the 5900 and Quadro
3000 use a similar GPU.

You can use RivaTuner to turn your Geforce into any model card (only
lower or equal versions, you can't go any higher).

The same will work for any Quadro.

The QuadraFX is basically the same as the GeforceFX, chip for chip... that
being said, the Quadra accelerates a subset of GL functions that are
disabled in the Geforce, but unless you are using a specific set of
applications you will _not_ notice any discernable difference.

Not to mention the drivers...

Different professional applications require different drivers for
optimal performance.

None of the rendering software out there has been tested with or
supports the nv56.xx drivers.

You raise a good point.

It's not the rendering software, but the real-time use of the modeling
software... and driver stability and compatability are important. The driver
package is pretty much the same, except that the app vendors work closely
with nVidia to ensure that extra degree of stability.

In a production environment, down-time due to driver bugs can be big
money...

Very few sites test Quadro cards with games. (The defunct 3DPulpit is the
only one to come to mind.) When nVidia sends out a card for press use, the
company expects the benchmarks used to be relevant to the card's target
customer base.

But no, you won't see any substantial differences between Quadro and
Geforce, as they essentially share the same processor design. There might be
small differences due to different clock speeds. The Quadro also has better
sub-pixel precision, so FSAA quality might be a slight bit better, but
nothing worth the crazy price premium the Quadro commands (for gamers, that
is).
