I do agree but as someone running a 3080 for 1440p 144Hz and 4K 120Hz gaming I look at the reviews and think I probably wouldn’t notice the small uplift the 3080Ti/3090 or the small decline from a 3070Ti. Generally I think you need a >20% in performance for it to be really noticeable from one gpu to the next.No matter how you look at it even the 3080 is a stronger card than the 3070ti. The 3080ti takes that point and really puts it home cranking out near 3090 performance. So depending on what your opinion of a better option is performance wise the 3080 ti is a better card, price wise the 3070ti is. Really though when I look at the 3080ti my question isn't really if I roll back to the 3070ti but if I am going to splurge a little more and get a 3090 with all of that RAM. All of this assumes availability at MSRP, which hasn't happened in a long time.
Unless someone is just absolutely bent on best of the best I rarely if ever suggest a current same generation ti upgrade if you are ok with the performance you are getting out of your current card. The reasons you bought your card at (or your budget) more than likely haven't changed and honestly unless you are some pro gamer running at insane fps with inhuman reaction times the change in FPS between base and TI rarely justify replacement. I know everyone wants to future proof and for that more RAM is obviously better but no matter what in two years the engine APIs will have moved on anyway. If we aren't looking at Direct X 13 we are at least looking at 12.x+ incremental for the latest and greatest which will remove your 3000 series card from best fidelity at ultra settings regardless of horsepower under the hood. My 1080ti is a good example. Still keeps up well enough by teraflops, but no ray tracing or the RTX core component improvements. Anyone wanting future proof is just justifying the money they want to spend on their toys with an unattainable goal.I do agree but as someone running a 3080 for 1440p 144Hz and 4K 120Hz gaming I look at the reviews and think I probably wouldn’t notice the small uplift the 3080Ti/3090 or the small decline from a 3070Ti. My main hesitation would be the 8gb of the 3070Ti. I do wonder how well the 10gb of my 3080 will hold up for 4K, no problem now but not sure about the next 1-2 years.
