Great example of what a fantastic value the RX 480 is. Sad that cards are selling over MSRP when freshly released, but as the dust settles, the second half of 2016 is looking like a really good year for high performance at mid range prices.

A 10-15% performance increase for a 25-50% mark up? A fool and their money are easily parted. I'll eat my hat if they launch at MSP or get down to MSP in the first six months. Oh and no upgrade path by adding a second card....

Me I'll wait six months and let the dust settle, who knows what async will bring to the game.

Not sure why "RIP AMD".

AMD's 480 runs almost as fast and is around $100 cheaper.

AMD is starting at 250$ (8GB), custom models will go above.
1060 is also starting at the same point.
I guess 1060 will be slightly faster in most games out of the box. But for non seriously overclocked cards, we can claim performance parity.
Nvidia have nice things like shadowplay, better power consumption, better overclocking, better thermals. And if they see that people don't buy the card, they will just lower the price.

What? No it isn't. The 8 GB RX 480 is only about $10 less expensive than OEM GTX 1060.

The founders edition is $299, but AIBs will be cheaper (once supply catches up to demand). The 1060 is also probably FAR more power efficient as well. Some people factor power use into their costs. So yes, this could impact AMD.

Even as an Nvidia fan, I do hope AMD can stick with it. Competition is good. It keeps prices down and the market more honest.

There is already no REAL competition. Intel is raping CPU market, Nvidia doing the same to Graphics.
And AMD keeps loosing money for the last 10 years ...
I had to pay 439$ + shipping and taxes for my 1070. It's 100$ more than my last x70 card :(

AMD is not starting at $250... Where did you get that? The 4GB version is $200 (newegg says $199.99, but OoS).

Until the 1060 is out we won't know the actual street price, but since it's nVidia, it won't retail for $300 (or $250 for the other version) like the RX480 is. I do believe it will be slightly faster (hence the slight price premium) and I also agree that partners will bring great versions of it.

In any case, that logic also applies to AMD's RX480. I'd love to see them side by side at stock and partners cards.

Cheers!

OK how the hell do you reply to a specific post.. lol

Sadly you are right about competition. I think Intel's chief competitor is ARM and all the companies making mobile chips at the moment. AMD sadly cannot seem to keep engineers and management. I do hope they can right the ship though. I miss the AMD of the early 2000s.

As for video cards, the 1070 being $439 is more supply and demand at the moment. Nvidia is not getting the extra money, the retailers are (unless it is the FE). Once supply catches demand, the prices should settle into their MSRPs. New architecture, new manufacturing process, high demand all factor into the increased costs. I am betting in 6 months you should start seeing $200-$250 1060s, $350-$400 1070s and $550-$650 1080s..

People are scared of monopoly yet they wish for the competition to die, what an irony... Yeah "RIP AMD" with a smiling face, LOL

I don't think the price difference between that of the Founder's Edition and the normal coolers will be that high because it is a low-budget card. I hope that the $299 is for the 3GB version but I think that it isn't. The RX 480 ($240) has GTX 970 performance and the GTX 1060 ($300) has GTX 980. People will be willing to spend $60 more for an entire graphics tier higher of performance, rip AMD.

There is a "reply to ..." on the right lower corner of the post you want to reply to.
The 439 is the actual price suggested by EVGA. they have priced cards from 420$ for now.
I got it since my older card has died couple of weeks ago, otherwise would wait for a couple of month.

Are you familiar with "sarcasm" and "trolling" ?
Anyway, there is no way to help AMD other than donating them money.
They have failed themselves and us.

I'll just be sitting here, eating popcorn, watching the AMD vs Nvidia prizefight. With a very entertaining side fight of fanboys and girls.

Honestly, this is very good news to me. AMD forced Nvidia's hand in releasing a lower cost GTX. Now we get to see AMD react accordingly. There hasn't been a truly good battle between the 2 in a while.

"launch later this month" (july). If it's anything like 1080 availability, we'll be able to buy one some time in Sep/Oct...maybe.

If have learned anything about the gtx 1070 and 1080 then the actual price for this card will be around 400 dollars =/

I got my 8GB card for $230 with free shipping on launch day so it's not anywhere near the same price. Now as for speed we should all know by now to take what AMD and Nvidia say with a grain of salt. We really still don't know how anything stacks up and I am pretty sure that all 1060s will be priced at $300 like the founders at launch just based on supply. Once we see third party cards readily available for the chips and what room each company has to move in terms of price we will see who won what market share. I can't wait to see real benchmarks of 3rd party cards of both. The smartest response was by Anarkie13 who just wants a competitive market where we see lower costs and more choice. That is all I want.

Smaller chips have much higher production yields. And of course there are more of them from the same wafer.
So the availability should be significantly better. Though demand too :)
You will be able to get one for a "fair" price in August.

There won't be a 3 GB version. Not unless an OEM makes it, and if they do it will be less. All OEM cards have an MSRP from Nvidia of $249, and all of them are supposed to be 6 GB GPUs.

OEM GTX 1060 GPUs carry an MSRP just $10 above the 8 GB RX 480. At the same time, the GTX 1060’s TDP rating is 30 W below the RX 480’s, and Nvidia also claimed the GTX 1060 will be roughly 15 percent faster. Although the 4 GB RX 480 with its $200 MSRP will undercut the GTX 1060, if Nvidia's claims are true then the GTX 1060 still has an advantage in terms of performance and power consumption, and it should be highly competitive against the RX 480.
