Ok, if it's just a matter of being a more compact/convenient way of having dual-8-pin power, then that suggests the RTX 3090 will have a power draw of AT MOST 375W.

That's not great, but it could well be as low as 300W, which would be nice. Possibly less.

I dont see anything in that movie about RTX 3090 design at all , all are older cards ... and nothing new , Vapor chamber ? been used since forever . how we move heat? we know it for two hundreds of years already... sooo whats new? smaller PCB ? lol ...

OMG Either show real innovation or stop trying to fool us Nvidia ... you will never invest in expensive cooling solution. and we know that.

I don't think the 3090 idea will succeed,it will suffer like their older brother Gtx 690

One major reason the GTX 690 suffered was because it - like all x90 cards before it - was a dual-GPU card at a time when game developers were starting to ignore SLI/Crossfire. Like two GTX 680s on a single board. The then emerging - now common - deferred rendering techniques are largely incompatible with the traditional ways of doing multi-GPU.

Game developers chose to not waste time supporting SLI since less than 1% of gamers would benefit from it. When you couldn't use SLI, the card offered performance similar to a single GTX 680.

I'm hoping that a water cooled version is offered. I'm running a Cryovenom (which is still awesome). The Cryo was the first GPU where I didn't just toss the fan cooler into the garbage.

I certainly think this will be a major upgrade to my 1080Ti, but I sure won't be buying the Founders (Flanders?) edition. It looks like an ugly, Soviet-era piece of tech. It's depressing just to look at it. I'll take a hard look at an EVGA water-cooled model, should one arise.

And good luck keeping those exposed heatsink fins from bending.

The way it is talked about, it seems they're are a 850W PSU WILL be required for a 3090, is that right? Because I bought a new 750W three weeks ago.... :(

There wasn't much and they didn't address it directly, but they did show a picture of the air flow which this article even screen captured for you.

That's definitely the 3090 cooler. The short PCB that allows air to be pulled from below the card and exhaust it above is about as innovative as we have seen in quite a while. This would be quite beneficial for multi card setups where the top cards are often starved for air. They also show a render of the card right at the end of the clip.

I'm interested in seeing if this will connect to a PCIe 3.0 board and if so, will it suffer a performance hit over PCIe 4.0? it seems like the RTX 3000 series are moving to PCIe 4.0, but if I remember correctly, even moving up to PCIe 3.0, using a PCIe 2.0 video card was ok for the first year or so, as it took that long for GPUs to be able to catch up to utilize the extra throughput offered by PCIe 3.0

spongiemaster, going by that pic, the warm air from that fan would then be sucked right into and through my cpu cooler, not ideal in that respect.

This is clearly not the 3090 it has two fans not one

That video is nothing but an elegant way of prepping users and saying, "Hey users, you will get a powerful card. But the Ampere usage will be very high with Ampere. Sorry we goofed up with TSMC and got stuck with Samsungs 8nm node. Please bare with us and do not complain when you see the hideous triple slot cooler and a 400W power consumptions numbers" :tearsofjoy:

What if he/someone else has an overclocked 10900K :tearsofjoy: 400W GPU, 200+W CPU, 60W MB/USB/Fans etc. Thats very close to the upper limit of the PSU. Probably thats the reason 850 might become a norm with that card.

I do have a 10700k but I don't intend to OC. Think I'll be safe if I went with 3090??

I just got an EVGA 750 G3 power supply only recently for my 3900X / X570 build. Not going to replace that again so soon!

I said he will be fine , that is it will work and a new PSU is not needed ... OFC had he not bought the 750 I would have suggested 850Watts for him :)
 
Those were 8 mins I wasted... at least it was only 8 mnins.

I like nvidia, I like the drivers that usually don't have a huge amount of troubles, but with every new gen the price/performance_gain gets harder and harder to swallow.
