Nvidia sli bottleneck?

I am going to skip the details why did I make this choice. I got a z87 k motherboard from Asus and two 770 4gb from inno3d and gigabyte. I am planning to sli these two cards but I found out my motherboard only got one pcie16x and the other slot is pcie4x. Can any tell me would this bottleneck my cards or anything major will happen. Thnx

Nvidia will not allow SLI to operate with one card in 4x mode. most motherboards however can run their slots in a 8x 8x mode. 8x PCIe 3.0 will not bottle neck those GPU's, so as long as your board can run in 8x 8x mode rather than 16x 4x mode, then your just fine.

The Asus z-87 k does not support SLI.

There won't be a bottleneck using 4x PCIE 3.0

it is highly likely that you need to chose the PCIE slot which as 8x then the 16x runs at 8x.

edit: if your m/b doesnt support SLI then, you cant.

Return one of your 770's or buy a new motherboard http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-z87plus , sell your old one on ebay at 30% less retail.
