Nvidia Surround Crashes Monitors

Whenever I unplug a monitor from my GPU, or upgrade a driver while nvidia surround is still in surround mode, It crashes all three of my monitors (There may be one other thing I've done that causes this and I'm forgetting what that is). They all lose signal and go dark immediately, and there is no way to get even a single one back on. After restarting the system, everything appears normal and goes to the windows animation and the monitors go dark again (windows can even be heard booting in the speakers).

I've tried driver cleanup utilities, uninstalling reinstalling drivers, safe mode, none of those solutions seem to work. The only fix I've been able to find is to f8, and use the last good configuration option in windows, which worked the first time but not this time.

Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening? Before this goes into another "how to set up surround thread" keep in mind everything works find and I don't have some passive adapter. I've been playing Crisis 3, PlanetSide 2, etc on three monitors no problem. Just really annoying to go through this process if I don't remember to "undo" Nvidia surround correctly to go back to normal monitors.
