Hello guys , i have an issue with my laptop that has been bothering me from some time now. The laptop is a 2years old Asus X550J , with intel i5-4200H and nvidia gtx 850m 2GB
This laptop has a very bad cooling system as it seems and from like 6 months now my GPU is throttling because of high temps.
As most of you probably know most (if not all) of the nvidia cards have this type of protection if they start reaching certain temps the voltage and the clock speeds drop.
The CPU and the GPU are on the same heatsink which is a problem.Because of this my idle temps on the gpu (even when it's not used) are arround 55-60 degrees , because of the CPU. Now when i start playing my beloved Dota 2 the GPU goes to 80 degrees in a matter of seconds and the GPU gets capped (the temp doesn't go any higher) , the voltage drops from 1.2V to 0.8V and clocks speeds drop significantly also.I believe all this is caused by the CPU , because when i made a stress test on the CPU without using the video card , the CPU went to 85 degrees and the GPU somewhere near 70-75.
Basicly my question is , is it possible to somehow remove this GPU cap? as far as i know this card can go up to 100 degrees without any issues. It's just getting very annoying , fps drops a lot , i get huge freezes because of it and when i look in the gpu-z my card is arround 400mhz , when it can go beyond 1000.It also seems that cleaning the laptop and changing the thermal paste has no effect at all.Because i already did this , no result.
Any suggestions on how to disable this annoying GPU temp Cap?
