Historically I would normally say nvidia, but for the first time in awhile I'd call it a toss-up due to AMD's recent big push in the drivers/optimisation department.

a simple way to put it for the time being: Multi-Gpu? Go nvidia
Single-Gpu? Consider AMD 7970

i know a lot of people have that doubt but what u need to understand is that it is your budget that will be the deciding factor when choosing a card
both companies have their advantages
some examples are
hd 7750 > gtx 650 > hd 7770 > gtx 650 ti > hd 7850 > gtx 660 > hd 7870

nvidia has physx but with amd u can use cpu physx
both these companies make good cards
if u give ur budget we can recommend u a graphic card
