Nvidia vs ati, is it normal?

on my motherboard Asus p5ne-sli with an nforce chipset

when i use an nvidia graphic card, the board works fast like all other boards loading bios and going to OS is just normal.
when I load an ati graphic card on it, its just so slow! even to go to bios it takes 3 minutes, to go to os 5 minutes.

I have a super pc, Quad with 8gigs of ram ect..but this is first time i own an ATI card.
should I get a new mobo?

yes i removed the old driver but didnt use any tools like driver sweeper, but even when i disconnect the hard drives
is it normal for it to take 3 minutes to show the bios setup menu? I wanted to get a dual gpu card cheaper than gtx 295
the asus bios tool to update doesnt work it stays frozen and doesn't show up with ati card.

gc £240, new power supply £55, now maybe a new mobo £60
should've just bought the nvidia for £300.

£55 PSU?, £240 card? are you sure the PSU is up to the job because I can't think of a PSU that can run top end cards that goes that cheap.

yes i know exactly, no its the mobo i purchased a new one today and i'll get it tomorrow its the x38 chip by intel
my current mobo is a nforce 650 which many complained about it, i'll see what happens tomorrow

the psu i got yesturday solved the random power off problems, its certified for ATI and asus recommended it for hd 4870x2 2gb it delivers 70ams with 850W serious power. its just sad if i think i had to get new mobo and new psu i would've just bought gtx95 but on the other hand in the future i can have full 16x pci speed when i crossfire with another hd4870x2.

so my advice for anyone wanting this card makesure you have an intel chipped mobo and powersupply that delivers
40ams and more or else go to ati website for certified power supplies.

you're correct but the psu i got costs £100 cheapest anywhere but i bought it from a wholeseller directly "i got contacts lol" for half the price brand new boxed. AK-p085fg
its 850W delivering 70amps and has 2x 8 pin pcie adapter and is certified by ati for the hd4870x2 2gb.

You realise people run ati cards on nvidia mobo's no problem right?

Also, if your psu wasn't enough for the 4870x2, it wouldn't have been enough for the nvidia card either.

well my old psu had 20amps it ran the 8800gt with no problem, when i put the ati card it barely goes to bios then shuts down. so i got a new powerfull psu and it no longer shuts down but booting to bios setup takes ages, OS works fine but
as i am installing ati drivers it crashs or blue screen. its just not normal for a bios to take 5 min to show, my mobo works 100% great with nvidia cards.. so i still havent fixed the problem until i get my new mobo which i am sure is fine
if not then i got a bad graphic card then i have to pull my hair out and hit my head on the wall 70 times

No, it is not normal behaviour. I am just pointing out that it there is nothing inherently wrong about using an ati card with a nvidia chipset based mobo.

What error code do you get when it blue screens?

couldnt remember, my mobo is SLI too but isnt using an ati on an nvidia chipset not stable?
the mobo is p5ne-sli by asus i think the fact that when i go to update the bios using Ezflash and it freezes
must have something to do with compatibility issues and the fact that 5 minutes are needed to load the bios setup menu
i tried swapping ram and swaping hard drives and disabling usb and raid and most devices i dont need it still so slow

No, there is no reason why it would be unstable or have a reduction in performance, nvidia are stupid, they ain't that stupid.

Something isn't working and whilst it could be the video card, it is not a common thing.

well fingers crossed 2moro i'll have the new non nvidia mobo and we'll see what happens, i hope i get to keep my hair lol
