Question NVME already on 690 GB of total writes

I had to do a few reinstalls of windows maybe 4 times because I was having some problems with the activation and some compatibility issues.

After looking up on hwinfo there was already 690gb of total writes.

Isn't windows 11 like 40-50gb ?

On my old pc I was using an SSD with windows 10 for 13 years and the total writes was something like 20TB.

How in just a few hours is on it's way to 1TB already ?

I haven't installed any game yet.

A Windows install may end up at 40-50GB.
But the process of installing is much much more.

A LOT gets moved around and then deleted.

Check the usage once a week.
This does not seem unusual.

I even got paranoid, all my thoughts were did I get a used NVME ? But the package was sealed ? How the hell did it get it there so fast ?

That right there is several hundred GB. The 'wipe' actions count as well.

Over the last 22 months, I have written about 22000 GB....about a terabyte per month. That's very ordinary. In that time my so-called "health" as seen in Crystal Disk Info has declined from 100 to 97. Again very ordinary.


1597 GB in the first 5 days, following a new install.... over 9 TB a month if that rate had persisted. It did not.

Indeed.

An SSD incurs a LOT of write cycles in the first few days/weeks.

That graph line flattens out quite quickly.
