I am building a pc and I am using a
MSI MAG B460M MORTAR Micro ATX LGA1200 Motherboard.
I want to add a NVMe ssd (preferably the Western Digital Blue SN550 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive)

I am confused since I have heard that NVMe drives use pci4 but intel motherboards dont support pcie 4 so...
someone help me

Solution
  • M2_1 supports up to PCIe 3.0 x4 and SATA 6Gb/s, 2242/ 2260/ 2280 storage devices1
  • M2_2 supports up to PCIe 3.0 x4, 2242/ 2260/ 2280 storage devices
  1. SATA1 will be unavailable when installing M.2 SATA SSD in the M2_1 slot.

The Western Digital BLUE SN550 is a M.2 NMVe PCIe 3.0 x4. You can put it in any of the two slot but if you use M2_1 slot SATA1 is disabled.

Your board doesn't have PCIe 4.0.
