The Corsair Force MP510 and Samsung EVO Plus seem to be very close as far as published specs, with the Corsair having an edge in endurance and in price.

But there must be more to it. Has anyone come across more in-depth comparisons that would tip the scales one way or the other?

I don't have charts with both of them together, but tests were performed on the same system and manner. Check out how the 1TB models compare:

The MP510 features 11.0 firmware (at least when I reviewed it, haven't check to see if there are any updates yet), which is typically a little slower in some instances when the drive is half full. If you want a better device than it, for maybe cheaper, check out the BPX Pro. Here I pinned the 500GB 970 EVO Plus against a 480GB MyDigitalBPX Pro with the newer v12.1 firmware, which helps to improve the Phison E12 controller's performance: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/samsung-970-evo-plus-ssd,5608-2.html

Excellent, Sean! I wish that the Corsair MP510 had made it into the first roundup, but the existing comparison is helpful.
I had never heard of MyDigitalBPX Pro. I'll look into it.

I'm setting up a workstation for neural net research (number crunching, fast drive access). Given that I have two NVMe slots, I thought I'd use one for the OS (Linux) and the second for caching image files that are being processed. I ordered a Corsair MP510 2TB and an EVO Plus 1TB, thinking that I'd decide later which was getting the OS and which would serve as the workspace. I keep changing my mind about that. But perhaps they are close enough that it doesn't matter. (Your comments about that would be welcome)

I like the fact that the endurance on the MP510 is higher. Don't follow some of the comments about slow-down in application. Your comment ("Unlike other SSDs ...the MP510 maintains 1GB/s speeds when hammered with heavy sequential write transfers.") - sounds like it performs well under load.

The Sysmark and PCMark tests look like the Intel 660p is faster (wha?), but ATTO looks like the MP510 is at the top (along with...the BPX Pro?!)

Your "Sustained Sequential Write" test appears to show the Samsung Pro ace'ing all the others. I wish the EVO Plus was in that chart as well.

Anyway, thanks for the great reviews and test results. That's what I was looking for. If you have any comments or speculation on which would better serve as OS vs workspace, I'd welcome the insight.
