2 TB SSD for local (and maybe over LAN) backup; mid budget as your comments imply that USB 3.0 gives a narrow range of backup speeds.
Over a gigabit LAN, there is zero difference between a spinning HDD and an SSD of any type.
My NAS has a 480GB Seagate Ironwolf SSD, and several HDDs.
From my main PC, the time to transfer data to either is exactly the same, no matter which it is talking to. The LAN is the limiting factor, not the drives.
Even an HDD is faster than the LAN.
If you wnat a 2TB USB SSD to do this, anything Samsung/Crucial/SanDisk would work.
