Hello everyone,
So I've got this problem for a while now.

I have tried 2x different nvme m.2 drives (teamgroup mp33 and a WD SN770) and my games keep crashing. Sometimes it will run for 1 hour but it will eventually crash and I won't be able to repair / restart the game . It will work once again when i reboot the PC no problem but will crash again. Both on battlenet games (COD MW2 and Diablo 4) also battlefield 2042.

I have tried swapping the nvme to different slots in my mobo, same thing. Once in a while the pc won't even detect my nvme drive and i have to reboot to get it detected again. The games run fine on Sata ssd drives.

My system is a Asus rog Strix B-550F, 3080ti MSI Ventus 3x, amd ryzen 5 5600x, 16gb ram.

My windows 11 is running on a SSD sata drive. Games installed on the NVME drives. I have tried removing all my sata drives leaving only 1x nvme drive and my main ssd drive with windows. Still get crashes.

Now i want to know if i should change to a new motherboard. I really want to run the games on the NVME drives.

Thanks all if anyone has a solution for me

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

You forgot to mention the make and model of the PSU. If it's been in service for a while, please add the age of the unit. As for your motherboard, what BIOS version are you on at this moment of time?
Hi Thanks for welcoming me and replying
so My bios version is 2407, Rog strix B550-F Gaming Rev X.0x
My PSU is a Thermaltake SMART 750W

it was given to me from a friend about 2 years ago. he has used it for gpu mining for about 1 year i believe.
Ok, because its' been used for mining, I'd be sus of the reliability of the PSU today. Not saying Thermaltake made bad stuff, just saying.
Have you got or can access another working PSU to test your system with?

i have an older 600 or 650 Watt psu i can try. Im not sure if it has enough wattage.
i'm thinking about why it might work temporarily when i reseat teh GPU.

If you suspect the gpu, could be a contact problem in the slot. Clean out that slot with compressed air or something, reseat (be sure the card is secured) & test again.

did the calculation on my rig. it uses just under 600 watts for my setup , estimated.
750 watt should be more than enough ? I will look to changing my PSU anyhow since it is old the one I currently have.

Should I get a modular or non-modular PSU? i'll look for 850 Watt

Modular PSU are easier to work with & cut down on cable clutter but generally you'll find most gold + rated units these days are modular anyway.

update maybe this can help others with similar problems.

so i have changed my psu for a corsair 850watt, it's been 3 days no crashing. But i think my pc performance went down a little. i normally have a game opened, a 2nd monitor streaming videos youtube or netflix and a 3rd monitor with browsers opened. no problem with fps / performance. but now with the new psu a little laggy. when playing the game it' runs smooth then starts to "hiccup" a bit like FPS trying to catch up. videos are a bit laggy and the browser is choppy when scrolling. Can the PSU cause this? I'm thinking of adding a bit more memory , i currently have 16gb
but I'm glad teh NVME ssd are not crashing so far

So far tested with COD MW2, now testing with diablo 4 and other games to see if it's the same with all games

Tried Diablo 4, no performance issues with multitasking, battlefield and COD slows pc up a little. on resource monitor my RAM has about 1.5 to 2GB Standby and 3mb free while playing

More RAM capacity would help, especially in light of your comment about 1.5-2GB on standby. Also what bandwidth is your RAM running at?

On CPUID it says DRAM frequency 1064.5mhz, 16gb
CPU is at 100% usage as usual with these games.

Thinking of getting 32gb 3600hz ram
Thanks, that answers your problem imo. Your only running 2133MHz all up in dual channel config. That is the bottom end of DDR4 bandwidth speeds. 3200MHz speeds are officially supported by AMD with the system from your 1st post. If you have the patience, you could try OC your ram & see how far it can be stable at. But ram OC is a time consuming process.

ok yeah i suppose my ram sticks are low end lol. Im thinking of teamgroup tforce 32gb or gskill 32gb both about the same price currently.
Important thing is i got my nvme ssd drives working no crashing so far.
you guys helped me with the idea of swapping PSU unit thanks for that ! was almost fed up and just changing the entire mobo

Yeah, having a 50% increase in memory bandwidth can speed up a system.
