I'm saving for a dream PC and like the idea of a M.2 on PCIE x 4 running NVME. The motherboard I want is the Asus x99 A. I've looked and looked for anything saying that it's NVME compatible with a M.2 as boot drive. I can't find it. However, I built a computer for a friend using the Asus x99 a and there is a setting in the BIOS for NVME. I did not have an M.2 drive to play with it so my question is this: Would the X99 A run a M.2 boot drive over PCIE without the issues that come with using it on anything but z170?

Solution
Works just fine. Mine has been running flawlessly that way since last June. X99 A/USB3.1 and an Intel 750 SSD PCI-e.
