Hello,

Soon I bought a T520 refurbished laptop. I can say it is a new one. The battery count was on 3 cycles. I use it mainly for 3D modeling with SWks. Software is set to run with the external graphics NVS4200m. Today for the first time I turned it on an external monitor and noticed that the Software background window does look very well. Principally it is with shadows that are overflowing. It is not noticeable on the 15'' full HD screen, but on the big screen seem jagged and without smooth transitions. Furthermore, some of the built-in complex backgrounds doesn't show. When I start the program with the integrated Intel HD3000 graphics the complex backgrounds are showing. Basically NVS4200m is slightly better than HD3000, but the most important features for 3D processing are much better. I wonder why the integrated graphics is doing better than external. Moreover I don't think it's normal look. I installed the latest driver from Nvidia. I also tried with an old one, downloaded from Lenovo support, but the result is the same.

Here are the features of the graphics:

NVS4200m vs Intel HD3000

DirectX 12.0(11.0) vs 10.1
Shader Model 4.1 vs 4.1
Open GL 4.5 vs 3.0

Solution
First thing would be to find out why it was sold as refurbished. Maybe this is why.

Second, is the nVidia card set as the main video card? Try forcing the system to use the nVidia card only. Is the external display set to the native resolution for it?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Maybe I didn't use the right word, maybe the right word is second hand. The laptop is an old one, but the battery was on three cycles. Also it looks like new and smells like new one. So I can say it's a new-old laptop :)

Yes, it is set to use the nvidia card only and monitor is set on best resolution, FHD.

I assume that this is a specific graphics card and this is causing the issues.

Thanks again!
