Hello,

I used to stream league of legends on Twitch using OBS classic with game capture without any problems using an inferior build to my current setup.

I'm presently Running the Maximus VIII Mobo with I5 6600k 3.5 ghz processor. A GTX 970 16gb ram 850W ps and recently upgraded to win10 on a 500gb ssd. My internet connection speeds are 90mb down and 12mb up.

When i run the auto setup in OBS it sets me up for 6000 bitrate and generally seems to feel my setup is capable of streaming at high settings. However, this is not the case when i turn the stream on I have severe lag from the viewer's end. It will buffer, fall behind and freeze up. It is unwatchable.

After playing with the settings and tweaking them I found that I have to reduce my bitrate down to 500 and output to 480p to have absolutely no lag on the viewers end.

I know that my rig is somewhat out of date but I would expect to be able to at least produce a decent quality stream for a low graphics intensive game like league of legends. I can't seem to find any answers on the web that make any sense as to what might be wrong.

I have updated my graphics card drivers and all drivers for my motherboard and sound.

Any help is very appreciated!

What was your setup before?

Your CPU usage may be maxing out, try limiting your FPS in League of Legends to free up some CPU power and see if that fixes your stream. Try 720p 30 fps at 2000-2500 bitrate.

What is your CPU preset set to? i5 6600k is a very capable CPU but pretty much for gaming only, it is not the best streaming CPU, especially if you're using a high CPU preset.

Should be under Output in OBS settings. I would. at best, use veryfast, and recommended superfast. It will lower the quality by quite a bit but help with dropping the frames. If that doesn't fix it, then we can look at other settings.

Previous setup was a very economic build. AMD quad core 3.0 ghz i think and Radeon 7700?? Everything else was very basic.

Maybe I should also mention that I recently upgraded my primary monitor to a 144hz. No idea if this matters.

I think I had set my in game FPS cap to somewhere between 140-150. can't remember what the set below unlimited is at the moment.

Cpu preset is at veryfast - I will try moving it down to superfast and see if that helps.

If my cpu is in fact hindering me this is a bit dissapointing. When I built this rig at the end of 2015 I believe this was a top tier processor below the i7.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Yea the CPU in combination with you running 144hz is your issue. You should be able to stream no problem if your system was limited to 60 hz. But bumping up to 144hz puts a huge strain on your 6600k and it can't handle both that and streaming which is CPU dependent. If you really want to stream while still running 144hz, you are going to need an I7, the 7700k being your best option, which your motherboard supports after updating bios.

If i were to go in and lower my monitor to 60 hz in my nvidia panel would this take the load off or does it not work that way?

It really isnt that important to have 144hz while playing LoL. I mostly got it for fps games.

Yes this should work, then be sure to limit your FPS in game.
Unfortunately this may not look great on your monitor since its made for 144hz. Let me know your result! I would try 720p 30 fps 2500ish bitrate, which should look pretty good.

You can use afterburner to limit your FPS,limit it at 72 if you want to limit it,half the refresh of the monitor so it can still sync.

But that is not your problem,if the stutter/lag is on the viewer side it means that the recording has too low a priority, you can set that in the settings at least in classic OBS you could ,put it to the highest setting so that OBS always uses as much CPU as it needs.
