obs stream lag with webcam??

[i try and budget]

when i add the webcam i get lag but when its gone there are still spikes here and there but barely noticable.

specs
gtx 960 ssc
intel i3 4160 <---- assuming thats the issue
8gb 1600mhz ram
windows 7

What are you CPU and GPU operating temperatures, at idle and under load? If you don't know, download and install an app like hwmonitor and run in the background. It will provide the information.

umm. wel i have cpu and gpu meter but when using the gpu encoding while streaming and gaming i usually get around 65% usage and around 65 degrees. cpu usage will be at around 70 as well. and when idle the temps and usage is very low. i honestly think its the cpu. im trying to get an i7 4790

It could be the CPU bottlenecking, but does it ever hit 100% utilization during these drops in performance? What make/model heatsink are you using?

ah. well then yes it rarely would hit 100. maybe 80 more that. im using stock fan cause cpu is not overclocked. i think if i get the i7 i can still encode on the gpu on obs but still bring the quality up. or maybe just switch to cpu encoding all in all once i get it

The i7 will definitely improve all CPU related processing tasks. I would stick to GPU encoding and change as as experiment afterward to see where you get the best performance overall.
