OC E8500 750i Motherboard

So I just overclocked my Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 from a stock of 3.16GHz 1333MHz FSB to 4.0GHz 1666MHz and it is running stable at 42 Celcius Idle. It normally runs at like 36-38 Idle. The voltage is set to 1.32 and I heard that anything over 1.365 is hurtful. How safe is it to keep it clocked at this? My Memory is set at 1066MHz and the memory and CPU are Unlinked. Is it worth keeping it clocked?

Just tried running Far Cry 2 and the temps were at like 49 to 51 Celcius on load.

1) Use Realtemp for Temps.
2) What's your CPU Cooler.
3) Depending on your temps you can say it's safe until 1.45 Vcore.

4) Use PRIME95 Small FFT'S to check the stability of your OCing. No game is going to show if you have a stable overclock.

Yeah I use Realtemp for Temps and those are the readings it gave me. My CPU cooler is the stock cooler that came with my CPU. I'll make sure to run PRIME95. Thanks so much for the advice.

Ok so I ran Prime95 for awhile and it didn't give me any problems, but I checked my Real Temp and I was at like 72 Celcius. Is that bad? Should I lower the clock or increase voltage?

I wouldn't run over 65C myself. My E8400 is at 3.6 with quite a high Vcore due to a bad mobo ( i have Vcore set at 1.312 v) and run at 55 C after 12 hours Prime95.

Note that to be sure your Overclock is stable, running prime 95 on both cores with the small FFT option for quite some time is a minimum of 8 hours.

Also, i wouldn't do ANY Ocing with the Stock Intel cooler. Dont go that way you will burn your CPU.

Get yourself something like Artic Freezer 7 pro for about 30$.

Also, in your first post you mention that you have a STABLE overclock at FSB 1666 at 42 C. You can't say your overclock is stable just because you boot into windows.

My temps at 3.6 are 32 C idle, 43 C full load, 55 C prime95 12+ hours.
