ok so i got the MSI 970A-G46 and the FX-6300 today from micro center. I was going to manually overclock the processor but this is my first build and I think using OC Genie II would be a little easier. From what I've heard though, OC Genie up the voltage way too high for the increase in frequency. so what I want to know is can I lower the voltage manually after using OC Genie II, or will that screw up everything. If not can you tell me how to do this step by step. thx in advance.

Yes you can lower the voltage afterwards. The only thing it will screw up is stability. Once you find the lower limit on your voltage, your system will blue-screen under stress. Then you will need to increase voltage a little.

IIRC your RAM will also be overclocked with the genie. Make sure that the voltage it picks for your RAM is within specs.

I would not do any auto-overclocking without good cooling though.

After you've used OC Genie, at startup it'll warn you not to change anything (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujyEGCDhx40), but lowering the voltage should be safe.
