I currently bought a new system and im new to overclocking. I need help overclocking my AMD fx-6300. I would like to overclock to a 4.5 or higher if possible

Mobo- MSI 970 Gaming
CPU- AMD FX-6300
CPU Cooler- Corsair H60
RAM- Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB 1600MHz

Solution

The H60 is the same AIO I used to get my FX-6350 to 4.7 GHz. But anything more and the thermal margins fell too low and throttling started occurring.
Basic OC'ing starts with disabling turbo mode, increasing the unlocked multiplier a click at a time, saving settings, booting to Win, and testing for stability and temps with something like Intel Burn Test (at default).
When an unstable OC results, tweak up the vcore ~0.05V at a time (or whatever your board allows). Try to stay under 1.5V.

But be sure you PC is 100% stable and clean of junk before starting.

Solution

Right on the knife's edge, would you agree than ? Depending on "Silicone lottery" at 4.5 GHz it should be fine. Over that is iffy.

I tried CM 212 evo on my 6350 and it couldn't go over 4.5 -4.6 GHz. Only my Scythe Mugen3 that is almost twice the size keeps temps to 55c at 4.8 GHz no matter what. It seams that every processor has a step when raising voltage and with it TDP has to be much higher even for 100 MHz higher OC. I got it to 5GHz but it's requiring over 1.5v while at 4.8 is a tad less than 1.4v. That's too big jump for comfort and not much gain performance wise except for bragging rights.
By my calculations it would require at least h110 cooler or any with 200+ TDP to keep it at 5 GHz. Cool first, OC later is my motto.
