hello,

so i have had a stable OC in XP of 3200MHz (8*400 FSB) for half a year now with a E6600.

Recently i changed to vista :fou: x64 for dx10 and +4GB support and i am unable to get into windows on 3.2GHz.

at first i wasn't even able to complete the POST, it stopped just before the ramtest. then i changed the ram to SPD and the post completes but i do not get into windows no matter what i try.

here are my settings :
PC:
ASUS P5WDH
4*1GB OCZ ATI edition
raptor 150
E6600
8800 GTS 640

in xp stable:

cpu ratio = 8
FSB = 400
Vcore = 1.375
VMch = 1.65
Ram = 400MHz 4-4-4-12 1.95V

in :pfff: vista (stable) :
cpu ratio = 9
FSB = 333
Vcore = 1.35
VMch = 1.65
Ram = 400MHz 4-4-4-12 1.90V

in :pfff: vista (not stable, can't even get into windows, it hangs at the boot screen) :

cpu ratio = 8
FSB = 400
Vcore = tried 1.385 and 1.4
vMch = 1.75
Ram = 400MHz SPD 2.00V

does enybody know what i can change in my bios to make it work,
because the difference between ddr2-667 and ddr2-800 bandwith is immense.
thanks

PS sorry for the double thread but the previous one does not have a title and can be closed or removed.

I've got a q6600 overclocked to 3.06Ghz and never had a problem with xp or vista till the other day. I changed my psu and graphics card and now I've got the same problem as you. I'm still trying to figure it out also. Have you tried with only 1 memory stick? or try running a memtest86 bootdisk?

when i install just 2 sticks of 1GB i have no problems at all, it is when i installed the 4 GB that i need to nable SPD to even make it post.
memory remapping is also enabled offcourse

I have my Q6600 running at 3.2Ghz, with no errors on V64. And overclock shouldn't matter to the software anyhow.

The fact that your system runs on 2 DIMMS but has trouble with 4 brings me to two questions:

(1) Did you install KB 929777 yet? If not, do that first: There is an error with certain types of controller which this fixes.

(2) Many motherboards don't like running 4 DIMMS at high speeds/tight timings. Often you will have to loosen your timings and perhaps even downclock the RAM to get all 4 stable. I saw you have 4/4/4/12. Try 5/5/5/15 and see does that help.

Also - OCZ have an excellent support forum, which their technicians *do* read and post to.

scotteq the hotfix is installed and i also tried 5-5-5-15 with no help
but thanks for the info,
i will see what ocz will say

"Can't" handle sounds kind of strong. But know that most boards are rated with 2 DIMMS, not 4. So often you have to make allowances.

Also: 3rd question - Is the command rate set at 1T or 2T?? If it's 1, set it to 2.

i don't see anything in my bios to change the command rate it is now in sync with my fsb so i supose it is 1T but i don't know how to change it. gonna try google now to see if i can find something.

but thanks

ok so i am able to get into windows but not stable at all and with some crazy voltages(vmch =1.75 ;vdimm = 2.1 ;vcore = 1.40)

You shouldn't need to raise your vCore that much - I'm running stock voltages at 3.2Ghz/400 FSB.

What voltage is your Front Side Bus running at?? You have twice the load on it now, since you're running 4 DIMMS instead of two. I'd put the CPU back down to where you had it before you added the extra RAM. Then boost the FSB a couple notches. See does that help.

I had/have a similar issue. My only changes were I went from 2gb of Crucial value ram to 4gb Ballistix ram from Crucial and the installed Vista 64bit

I had trouble with my original overclock and getting it stable. Also, the memory test that Vista has would come up with memory errors on a non OC'ed settings with all 4 sticks in. When I test each stick individually or in a pairs, every every slot, no errors. Only get a failed memory test with all 4 sticks at one.

With some tweaks i got it stable and I have choosing to ignore the failed memory test since it doesnt seem to be supported.

Havent done memtest yet.

I'm not sure how helpful this will be, but I though I'd throw my experience in too.

I put together a system for my brother about a month ago and had crazy issues getting Vista x64 stable even at all stock speeds. A lot of research and trial and error concluded with 4 GB of RAM being the issue. I never ran this system under XP, but it seems Vista is fussy with over 3 GB of ram... but it can be fixed.

After a lot of fussing, I found was stable with 2.10 vdimm. What's the voltage recommendation on your ram? Maybe you need to bump up to 2.2 or 2.3 (if your board/ram can handle it). Once I got the ram stable I had no problems with OCing the rest.

Now the system is stable at q6600 @ 3.0GHz (9x333), ram 4GB @ 833MHz 4-4-4-12 (2.1v) on a GA-P35-DQ6. I could push the q6600 higher, but I didn't want to up the vCore which is currently at "normal".

If you search "4GB of ram with vista" (here and elsewhere) you'll find what looks to be lot of different issues. Hopefully some will help. Let us know if you solve it.
