OC Slot 1 P3

nice work...i got my pII 400 to 4x133, but it could not boot to windows, i'm thinking it was limited by memory...how do you like your board (i'm in the hunt for a new slot 1 board)

I think its an excellent board, never had any problems with it. I use one at work as well, exact same mobo/processor. Only a month ago I upgraded to a P4 2.4 at home, but I kept the P3 as a spare.
I would recommend it as a good board for anything but games released in the last 3-6 months. They tend to run too slow to play.

If I was as sexy as I was smart.....I'd still be ugly..DAMN
😡

OK, I'll sell you a nice BX chipset slot 1 board. It's an MSI MS6163, and you can have it for...not a lot of money, PM me.

Oh, it's also VRM 8.4 and compatable with the cheap Slot-T adapter/Tualatin processors, if you ever want to play with that option.

Oh oh... tell me what you used as cooling.

I got a P3 450MHz around on a Asus P2B-F (i440BX) board with PC133 memory and I always wondered if I could OC it with not to much problems and added cooling... but I'm too lazy to find out and now my bro has it, but I can probably convince him if he doesn't need much extra cooling.

My CPU fan spins so fast that it creates a wormhole 😱

i haven't added any extra cooling yet....computer running 100% stable with stock fan..

actully i found the best cooling for my p!!! 700 has been an oem passive heatsink (from a pII 233) some AS3 and a 92mm ys tech fan mounted on that will idle at 39c in my very hot 80 degree F room and under full load peaks out at 42c this is stock voltage at 784mhz...not too bad. It just takes a bit of persuasion to make a component from an secc1 fit on an secc2 proc...but once you get it set up its amazing.
Sparky what voltage are you at?
Crash...leme look at the specs of the board tomarrow (too tired to think tonight) and then i'll get back to you

I did a small test at my bro's PC (he's got my old P3 450MHz) to see how hot it runs... I must say it runs very cool.

Now lets hope I can convince him to OC his CPU to 600MHz.

another question. I have the same mobo/proc. at home as at work. It was the system at work I overclocked.

Work Spec:
Gigabyte GA-6ZXC Mobo
P3 450 OC'd to 604MHz
128MB PC-100
Diamond Stealth III S540 32MB Video
SB16
WIN2000 SP4

Home Spec:
Gigabyte GA-6ZXC Mobo
P3 450 OC'd to 500MHz
256MB PC-100
GeForce 2 MX440 64MB
SB128
WIN98SE

For some reason, when I try to OC my home system, it hangs at 600MHz and won't finish loading windows. Any ideas why they would be different?

Could be two reasons:
1. Every CPU OCs differently, maybe this core sample just can't handle 600MHz without extra voltage.
2. The memory in your home system is PC100 which isn't directly designed to run at 133MHz, in some cases it does in some it doesn't. You can test your memory with the program called Memtest86 to rule out the memory.

I love my Delta 60HP 7000 RPM fan that puts out more dB then CFM 😱

I really doubt that... his home system has a GeForce2 MX400, I got a GeForce2 MX running at a 89 MHz AGP bus speed (also the i440BX chipset like him at 133MHz FSB) without a single problem.
