OC stable under load, crashes on idle

ok, ive been having trouble with this oc for a few days, so im just gonna list everything first and than explain my problem

Q6600 (9x333) 3.0ghz Vid is 1.2625v
zalman 9700(temps idle around 40c)
Msi P6N diamond
Mushkin 4gigs (4x1gigs) @800mhz

cpuv is + 0.075v****any less and the comp blue screens constantly, any more and it restarts constantly, this is the only voltage that works.***
NB-SB 800mhz
FSB voltage is at +%12
North bridge volts is at default
South bridge volts is at default(1.5v)
RAM votltage is at 2.0v
All RAM timings are set to auto.

So i thought that this was working, so i ran Prime95 small ffts to test the cpu and it ran for over 10 hours before i stopped it. there were no errors but the temps did reach 60c. I thought it was stable, so i went to run the crysis cpu benchmark to c how much improvement there was, and it crashed my comp. it didnt blue screen, it just restarted it.
so i opened a internet explorer page to post a topic here and it restarted again. i let it get to my desktop and i got my laptopout to post a topic here and i saw that my computer restarted again, while it was idle at my desktop......... ... and it keeps on doing that cycle-desktop, restart, desktop, restart...

i was able to run prime95 on small ffts for over 10 hours, so im pretty sure that its not the cpu. does anyone have any idea whats going on here???? im really desperate so anything would b a great help. thanks.

Also i for got to say that my mobo does not allow me to have a cpu/ram ratio, but they are linked

Did you enable Load Line Calibration?

You are probably getting a voltage spike.

Did you turn off EIST and stuff? The MB might be dropping the voltage during idle. Turn all the power saving stuff off.

If LLC is enabled, then it is not working properly.

why clock the CPU down for? his VID is not bad, and his ram is more than enough to handle 333mhz. besides, 333mhz is the next logical step for a moderate OC for the Q6600.

the LLC and EIST would be my guess also. Turn off the EIST (speedstep) and the C1E, and make sure the LLC is enabled.

ok,i took a lookm at my bios and the settings are

HPET-Enabled
Bit suppoet-enabled
cpuid max val to 3-disabled
IOAPIC function-enabled
ACPI function-enabled
EIST-disabled
Spread spectrum-disabled


i also just increased my North bridge voltage by +0.075. my south bridge by +0.005 and manuely set the ram to 5-5-5-15, with the rest on auto.

im still getting blue screens in games, and frequent crashes


My mobo dosent have many options for overclocking, and i dont see LLC and C1E anywhere unless they are called something diffeent

that was the guide i use when i overclocked my Q9450. hopefully it helps...read the guide over and see if you're missing any important settings, and read the comments on the 1st page, jonny_ftm pointed out graysky's mistakes so its important. maybe PM Lupiron and he can help you as he's knowledgeable in OC-ing

Search for an option called SpeedStep, also I find it odd that if you pump more voltage to the CPU it restarts, unless it's overheating.

After a lot of thought and your replys I'm leaning to faulty voltage regulators in your mobo, but thats quite a longshot.

Can you tell us wich PSU are you using?

Also, can you get another one for testing? Maybe yours' faulty.

i dont know exactly which psu i have, i do know that it is a OCZ and its either 750w or 800w. il check in the morning and get back to u. and i am positive that my bios does not have sppedstep.

i did notice that my cpuv ranges from 1.26v-1.33v, but i did get 10 hours of prime 95 small ffts sucessfully so i dont think that its the cpu, but i might b wrong.

today i incresaed the ram MHZ from 800 to 1066, and my comp just froze.
tomorro i might lower the ram mhz to 667mhz just to test it. il report back soon. and thank you everyone this is a great help to me

just to be sure, check and make sure BIOS and everything is updated on your mobo?
