Just upgraded to Fractal D. Redefine R5 and MC hyper 212 evo.

I got a blue screen on the second day after OC. CPU was showing 40C at the time. is it posible that I can get an unstable system eve if the CPU temp is below 45C.

or could it be something else.

Thanks

Default setting by ASUS optimal mode, Will check tomorrow what are those default settings.

Thanks for answering. I was under the impression only heat was the cause of unstability.

You shouldn't use the auto AI mode. That always fails early. If you want to OC, set it to manual and then change one parameter at a time, starting with the CPU Ratio found in the CPU Configuration section. But first disable turbo mode.

That's because it it too hot! 85C! It is throttling to save itself.

Thanks clutchc, I understand that. Now i'm testing with x37. but still intel stepping is not working as with the default MoBo settings few second after computer is on I see x16 when computers is IDLE, now it's all the time x37 (except when it gets hot). I don't understand why step is not working when computer is IDLE.

Could it be that you have enough stuff running in the background that one or more cores is almost always busy? Watch the CPU activity in Task Manager.

If all cores are active at 15% to 30%, then Speed Step will be off. Speed Step is only active when a core is inactive for several seconds. Or did I misunderstand your comment?

it's just that with default settings I do see CPU stepping. multipliers goes as los as x16 when PC is 15% to 30% CPU usage.
