I have a Windows 10 PC that occasionally drops it's internet connection but then recovers. If I Ping the router the pings usually work, but occasionally I get a group of 7-8 that fail with the ping transmit general failure error.

Since this does not happen continuously, do you think this might be a problem with the network adapter and not the TCP/IP configuration?

Thanks

What type of connection are you using? Wired or wireless? Are your network drivers up to date? If it’s a wireless connection, what’s the signal strength?

Thanks for your reply.
This is on an old Dell Laptop, wireless with an Intel Centrino 6200 adapter card.
The signal strength is strong and most of the time works fine, but occasionally the WiFi becomes unavailable for a short time. If you leave Ping running you get the errors detailed above.

I have an identical PC using the same card and drivers on the same network which has no problems.

Is this an intermittent hardware fault? My plan is to swap the WiFi card to see if this solves the issue.

You could try a wireless USB adapter to save taking your laptop apart. I've been using TPLink WN722.

I agree with gggplaya if it is easy to replace just try a new card. Wifi cards seem to be fairly inexpensive. All depends on how hard the laptop is to take apart. Some are trivial an others are massive pain.

Although I doubt you will see anything real interesting I would check the event monitor. Maybe you get lucky and it has some error indicating why it is failing. Maybe idiot microsoft loaded a "better?" driver. You could try the latest from the chipset vendor.
