Oc'ing a Gforce4 MX 420??

Hey all, I have a PNY Verto GForce4 MX 420 64 mb. My question to all you is, What can I Oc this card to?? Now I do know that this is a low end card, but its the best i have right now for this rig. I have tried oc'ing it by moving the MCF first( tell I get artifact ) then resting and doing the same with the CCF. I would set it to jeut below those tested settings(where I thought it would be stable). I run Artifact Tester5 and sys locks up. So if any of you have tried Oc'ing the card please post the numbers you found. Thanks!!

Overclocking a Ge force 4 MX

I´ve just discovered tha my Geforce MX 440 is from the SE series, so it has the same clock speeds of a MX 420. So I got the coolbit registry tweaker and I wonder if there would be any problem if I do a little overclocking (250/333 to 270/400) or even more? Are the GPUs and Memories the same of a regular MX 440?

I just finished tring some numbers and i was able to oc 300/400 3dmark 1796. Im playing BF right now to see how it handles it =). But all in all its just a cheap card.

Run some benchmarks one after the other, and if your scores start going down on each successive run, the card is getting too hot... this can be true even if you see no artifacts...

Getting lower benchmarks when run successively doesnt automatically mean overheating card. Windows is super fast when you first boot up, and gradually gets slower and slower. If you run 3dmark2001 for e.g you may get a higher score the 2nd time round due to mem caching etc but after that the score may lower by 5-50 points or so.

Ocing that card is doable but you will not notice any difference at all with the gamming.

I have a similar question. I have a 4MX 440SE PCI that I really can't afford to replace yet. The problem is that my 3D Mark '01 score is 3600. >:-0 Can I o/c this POS to non-SE speeds?

I think the main problem is the PCI interface. Even if you did overclock it the transfer rate between card and system is too low to make a significant difference.

I think so, sine PCI devices share the bandwidth..

Yeah, they all share 133MB/s. But even if you do remove all the cards, you will still have the IDE controllers, USB and everything else which you cant live without, so there isnt really much point.
