OC'ing Advice

Hi there, I've got a tbird 800 on an abit KT7 mobo with 2 128 mb sticks of crappy ram. Due to my location I only have access to either a super orb or volcano II cooling unit. I don't have the money to ditch the cheap ram and get some good crucial memory. My question is what kind of oc can I expect to achieve due to this crappy ram/cheap heat solution combo. I'm hoping for 100mhz at least otherwise it's not even worth it. I've heard the volcanoII can be tricky to install on a KT7 mobo too. Thanks alot, hope to hear back.

hey, you should be able to get that 100 out of it, just be sure to watch the temp. I got 200 out of my 800 but I have some nice cooling, so just watch that.

enjoy

Great understanding is broad and unhurried; little understanding is cramped and busy.

If you're just upping the multiplier, you don't need to worry about your memory really. You should easily get 200 extra mhz out of that tbird while keeping a reasonable temp(try to keep your core voltage as low as possible while keeping the cpu stable).

If you're trying to overclock through fsb, however... pc100 generic stuff isn't going to like it. I barely got my kt7 raid to 133 fsb with a little extra cooling... before it topped out at about 120.

Do you hav a KT7 or KT7A Mobo? The KT7 Chipset doesn't OC well with the FSB, about 115 seems to be tops. So your crappy Ram might be OK.

You can always just change the multipilier so your memory won't be affected.

you should be able to do fine with a Volcano II its a pritty good heat sink
