i have an ati 9800np with infineon memory at 3.0ns. what do you reckon i could oc it to with just standard cooling nothing special. Also how much performance difference will there be, and would you say powerstrip is the best tool to use to oc it.

Just use the Omega Drivers It will not only increase the image quality, it also has an overclocking tool which is really good.

there are some overclocking tools you can found on 3dguru.com

You should be able to reach 390 core 324 memory. Some people can go higher and some lower. Thats what I got which is average I think. I modded mine with a P4 heat sink and now I can do 403 335.

Siranthony did you get the 9800np with 3.0ns memory? or 3.3?

It has 3.0. Just curious. Why do want to know information about my measily overclock when yours is clocked at an unbelievable 490.

Well you have 9800np, it's running at lower voltage, and i'm really suprised that you got to 400, a friend of mine couldnt' achieve more than 370/315(loser) the problem was his memory was 3.3ns, and his GPU was probably just a crap 1, I gave him my ZM80A-HP, and some hacked up ramsinks which fits under the heatplates. Good job on that overclock. I wish i had a digital camera so i could take a pic of my vid card because the ramsinks are 4cm tall, taller than my Volcano 10 it's a hacked up 1700+ processor heatsink. What ramsinks are you using?

Thanks for props on my O/C. I don't have any ram sinks yet. I don't think I need them. From what I've seen there is about a 50/50 chace it would help and might reduce my memory O/C. I cut up an old celeron passive heat sink but I have not used it. Putting on a modified P4 heat sink really did a good job of pulling away the heat. I was able to O/C the core and memory more. I think the infineon memory is more affected by the heat from the core than the heat they generate on thier own. When I first put on the heat sink I tried it as a passive. Man that thing got hot quik. Just like when I was grinding on it. It's amazing how much heat these GPU's generate.

Captain Obvious says that obvious 3.0ns ram equates to 333Mhz!

But you may or maynot obtain that depending on the quality of your card!

The captain suggests you install the latest Omega drivers and use the built in Overclocking tool. Increase your speeds gradually, testing as you go!

Conehead reminds Captain Obvious that the 9800 NP with Infineon (Infireon!) memory runs like crap even though it is rated at 3.0 ns. Few people have been able to get above 325mhz...

ok so i downloaded the ati drivers so how do i overclock my card i can do things like test for artifacts but cant seem to find an overclocking utility

just go in the ATI's control panel and there will be a new tool bar called clock rates.
