OC'ing laptop RAM?

Hello!
So I bought 8GB of HyperX impact RAM for my laptop. It says it should OC to 2133 Mhz when I put it in but it stays at 1600 Mhz. I realize laptops cannot generally go above 1866 Mhz (can anyone confirm?) but it would still be nice to OC it at least to 1866 Mhz. Any ideas on how to proceed?
Cheers!

You'd do it in the laptop BIOS, if it supports it, but most don't. The only laptop I've ever owned with memory frequency settings is the Alienware m14x R2 I have right now.

Check your BIOS/uEFI settings to see if there are settings for memory frequency.

Most laptops do not have overclocking ability due to limitations imposed by the BIOS.

To check if your laptop does allow overclocking, look through the laptop manual, and/or boot into BIOS and see if there are settings for adjusting memory frequency/voltage and so on.

An old trick that I haven't used in years is to write a custom SPD to the ram causing the BIOS run it at the speed and timings I want. This is an extreme measure and if you write incompatible settings you will need a stick of slow ram to force the system to run at slow speeds so you can put the SPD's of the messed up sticks back to normal settings.. Google SPD programming for more info. http://softnology.biz/index.html is one program that I know of..

I just found the program I used to use.. Link to download http://derpybird.tk/TPU/SPDTool_063.zip link to info on it http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/spdtool-read-edit-and-flash-your-memorys-spd.20349/ Makesure you run this program 'Run as Administrator" AND this program is for advanced users only.. Say you have 2 stick of memory I would remove one and then program the other. If it doesn't work put the other dimm back in and it will cause the system to use the slower settings on the factory programmed dimm allowing you to put the settings back on the other dimm. I highly recommend saving the original SPD info of any dimm before programming custom settings to allow easy recovery of factory settings.

Cheers! I will be getting the Alienware m17x R4 soon so I am thinking I will be able to OC that one I found someone to sell if to me for very cheap. I will check BIOS as soon as I am done with my research project (30+ google chrome tabs open and I dont want to close them 😛 )
