Hey guys, I have no experience over clocking. My current build is quite old now and I will be replacing it soon so I have decided to use my old build to try out over clocking. My current build is

CPU: Phenom II x4 965 3.4 Black edition
GPU: SAPPHIRE VAPOR-X HD 4870 1GB GDDR5
RAM: Corsair XMS2 2GB 240-Pin DDR2
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD3P

I will need a new cooler for my cpu as I am using a stock cooler. I hope to spend at max 30€ or a bit more as I don't want to be pouring money into an old build. The sites i would use are pixmania.com, komplett.com and dabs.ie.

If anyone has any good guides they could link to help me out I would appreciate it very much.

I basically want to know what extra you guys think I can get out of my system. Even if it is not a good system for over clocking I still want to just to gain some experience.

If you have good air flow through the case then to get 3.6 -3.8 on the stock cooler is possible. For a cooler I recommend the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. It will cool your 965be just fine and be able to swap over to the new build.

I have my 965be @ 4.02 GHz @1.52 v for core. the only time it ever hits the 1.52 v is when stress testing. other then that it stays around 1.5 v max. I will check your sites you mentioned and edit this post and give you links to the cooler I mentioned.

Yea the 212 evo was the cooler I was looking at and it is right in my price range.

I'm spending 1800€ on a new gaming pc so I am not going to waste money for a new gpu for an old build
