I ve got a pentium D 2.66ghz processor .... I wanted to overclock it a bit say make it reach upto 3ghz on each core.... I have heard that its a pretty good overclocker .... so cud i hope to reach 3ghz without ne xtra cooling?? Also since i am new to overclocking cud u tell me the basic steps to overclock this ?

read some reviews. Google it with keyword "pentium 805 overclocking". Don't be lazy.
It has been posted here hundred times, at least you can try by using the search button.

For a start:

1. Go to bios.
2. Set cpu and ram to manual/expert settings.
3. Lower ram frequency from 533 to 400, 667 to 500, etc. Don't change timing
4. Make sure ram have 1.8-1.9 voltage
5. Add voltage to FSB usually +.3 volts is max. Add .3v
6. Cpu voltage to 1.4v
7. Increase cpu frequency by 10 increments
8. Boot
9. Test for stability
10. Monitor temps.
11. Repeat until achieves 3Ghz or max stable setting.

You should have no problem going from 2.66 - 3Ghz. Assuming you have a good motherboard, ram and power supply.

Why? It took me less than 5 minutes to get the toms article by simply using the search function (the miracle thing noobs are afraid to use for some odd reason). There are 100's of threads about the 805 and ocing it and almost all of them refer back to the article. Next time I'll give him this link

I know he has used google but how can he not find an OC guide? WTF? I was an OC noob myself at one stage and even back then there were tons of guides so there is no excuse.

Yeah i see that.

I was wondering what'll be his next question. I hope it won't be "In reply to Chuckshissle : Yeah...there's so many steps, i know that, but how do i go into BIOS ?" or maybe "Should i open my case to go into BIOS ?"

neways getting back to the topic  i dont c any setting in my bios saying FSB frequency or something similar...there are some frequency figures but they r all greyed out

neways getting back to what i was saying i could only find these settings after browsing completely through the bios:
Chipset configuration

ISA ENABLE BIT [ENABLED]
PCI LATENCY TIMER [32]
EXTENDED CONFIGURATION [DEFAULT]
CHIPSET MEMORY TIMING CONTROL [AUTO]
SDRAM FREQUENCY [AUTO]
CPC OVERRIDE [AUTO]
SDRAM TIMING CONTROL [AUTO]
SDRAM RAS ACT. TO PRE. [6]
SDRAM CAS # LATENCY [2.5]

And on the opening page of the bios i get the following but all r greyed out:

PROCESSOR TYPE: INTEL PENTIUM D INTEL EM64T CAPABLE
SW SINGLE PROCESSOR MODE [DISABLED]
PROCESSOR SPEED: 2.66GHZ
SYSTEM BUS SPEED : 533MHZ
SYSTEM MEMORY SPEED: 266MHZ
L2 CACHE RAM : 2MB
TOTAL MEMORY : 640 MB

SO WHAT DO I DO?? CANT SEEM TO FIND ANY PLACE TO CHANGE FSB FREQUENCY... :?

I managed to take 805 to 3.9Ghz on stock cooling ;)
... of course I have a good case with extra fans that pump cold air into the case.

however it only worked by raising voltages quite a lot ( to about 1.48 volts for processor )

MB: Gigabyte 965P S3
Mem: DDR2-667 ( unknown brand )

(dunno how stable it was, but I run 3DMark2k5 once at that speed)

well guys, i can give u a little piece of info,
i`m running Pentium D 805 @ 3GHz wih stock cooler
my mobo is MSI P965 Neo, well I found that it's not a good mobo for overclocking that much, as I got that it's support for FSB is 166MHz (max for this CPU may be and it can't adjust voltage), but I`m running fine, stable, max 56C temp,
I think I`ll rest in it for the winter, than i`ll buy a tharmal tek cooler and max the processor at 3.32. Than I`ll buy a Core 2 Duo 6600 after may be 1 year, than the price`ll be lower

Do you have to be sarcastic ?
I simply stated that you CAN get that processor to 3.9 Ghz with stock cooling, as long as you have enough cold air entering the case.

And yea that Gigabyte mobo is top overclocker, a friend directed me to buy it instead of a similarly priced MSI board ( which our friend Kalapahar seems to have trouble with )
