OCZ 550w PSU question

Didn't your video card come with any molex to 8 pin connectors? Usually they do. The connector on the psu isn't necessarily an 8 pin pcie connector. My PSU is modular, and has 8 pin connectors for the extension cables. Half of my sockets are red and half are black. The red ones output 4 pins at 12V (yellow wires) and 4 pins of ground (black wires). The black plugs are for everything else, and output 12V, 5V, 3.3V, and grounds.

I once had a client who had purchased a new motherboard because he plugged his 6+2 pin pcie connector into his cpu power and assumed it was the board when it didn't work. Every PSU is different. I have no idea what those plugs do without the model of the PSU.

What I CAN be certain of is that you can use a 6 pin to 8 pin adapter. Here's a link to one.

This one is for reference, you can probably find one cheaper elsewhere.

I've got 2 red sockets, each with 8 pin that are PCI-E, and 4(?) I think for anything else. These are modular. The wires for the motherboard and cpu are not modular.

I already ordered a $25 8 pin to 8 pin cable, hopefully there won't be any problems.

Hope is for people who don't have any control over the situation. Of the two modular psu's I own, one has male ports and one has female. Without knowing what you have, I can't tell you if that cable will work. You really should cancel your order for that cable as I found your solution at amazon for 6 bucks in under 5 min.

Jamming things into your PSU and then your GPU when you aren't sure is about as safe as sticking a fork in a light socket.

Are the pins inside the PSU socket solid or hollow? This will tell you if the connectors are male or female.

This is a female connector. This is what should be at the end of your cable going into the video card. It's pins are hollow.

This is the male connector. It's what is on the video card itself. It's pins are solid.

What type is on your psu and can you provide a link to the cable you ordered?

An adapter will work fine. Do you really need just one more cable clogging up your case? That 6 pin will provide the needed power, it just needs the adapter to give you those two more pins.

I tried to look for a cable in my country but that silverthing was the only thing I could find. If I were to buy from amazon I'd pay $6 for it and around $50 for shipping, which is a joke.
