I have just migrated system to a 6th Gen processor with z270 chipset. Transferred all ssd and hdd to new system...but when I installed Intel Rapid Storage software, all drive access began to crawl. I happened to do a format on this SSD... and after several minutes, it prompted format failed... the drive disapppeared from Computer/Disk Management.

When I reboot, it prompted me for user password on that drive. Tried 3 times, it says "HDD locked". Now it prompt the same every time boot. Has anyone encountered the same? How can I unlock the drive besides having the password? Bought it off ebay... seller responded that he is not aware of any password... Ocz Toshiba helpdesk can't help either. Changed other older system, it simply can't detect it.... Is this drive dead? what a waste....

As a general rule, we don't offer password assistance because we can't guarantee we're advising the actual owner. It's the same between you and the seller - was he the actual owner?

That's why we have passwords; to protect our data from making the theft of our laptop, etc. worse than just the loss of the machine.

It seems all you can is format that drive in another PC then put it back in and install Windows or whatever.

You got it wrong, drive was wiped and working for past 2 years.. It happened after I upgraded my system. I have oher drives bought from same seller. All working fine.

Tried the drive in other system, detecting the drive during bootup is also a problem. On older systems, (i tried 3), drive is undetected. Only on z270, it booted with password check.

Tried diskpart,

Step 1. Remove write protection from SSD using CMD

1. Start > Run -> type “CMD” and press enter
2. Type< diskpart
3. Type< list volume
4. Type< select volume # (# is the number of the USB HDD you’ve plugged in)
5. Type< attributes disk clear readonly

At step 5, system says diskpart failed to clear disk attributes
