I have

OCZ modxstream 500w
Motherboard Asrock B75m-DGS r2.0
i5 3470
8gb RAM
GPU HD 7770
1 HDD, thinking about buying a SSD in the future.

I have been using my PSU for 3 years, and from what I read it can perform above 80% , but I'm afraid that it is getting older and might fry my others pcs.

6 months ago my Mobo died, one night I turned off the computer, the other day it wasn't working at all.

I was thinking on upgrading my 7770 to a r9 380, but when I saw the TPC I realized that my only option might be the GTX 960, am I right?

Thanks for the help, having been reading the forum for a long time and learned a lot with you.

Solution

The GTX 960 would be fine with what you have now.
The Corsair CX 600W is too marginal for the R9-380 at peak demand. 650W or better is what you should be comparing. Remember, PSUs are only ~80% efficient in that class.

If the r9 380 takes 200w then you should be fine upgrading to it. Your current PC is ok running on that.
If it makes you feel any better here is my specs ON A 430WATT Power supply

i5 750 (Overclocked to 3.2GHz)
GTX 750ti
8GB RAM
4 hard drives
2 CD-ROMS
6 fans
WIFI

Runs no problem
