OCZ Petrol DOA, any good alternatives

Bought a 256GB OCZ Petrol for $229. It wasn't exactly cheap, but $20 less than other 256GBs. The drive was DOA as mentioned in the topic. I have asked for a replacement from Newegg, since they won't refund my money. I am still interested in buying a 200+GB SSD, but preferably a more reliable one. Is there actually anything as more reliable SSDs or they all are junk compared to HDDs?

Note: I am using the SSD to upgrade my HP Pavilion dv6 3050us. Is it so that the SATA controller on the machine would not handle some SSDs well? (Don't know much about this stuff, so wanted to know)

Intel is second to none for reliability -- i wouldn't touch anything else.

It seems like everything from OCZ lately (except the Vertex 4) has extensive issue with blue screens and DOAs.
The Crucial M4 looks to be a relatively stable drive.
The Intel 520 also is pretty stable.
The Samsung 830 is bulletproof, I've never had a problem with one and they seem to be the only SSD without BSODs and DOAs on a regular basis.
They usually cost a bit more, but it's totally worth it. You need a good reliable SSD, we all do.

Stay away from anything based on Sandforce, which is most of the market and you should be alright.

Samsung. Hmm. They make their own controller and NAND. What about Crucial? They use Marvell controllers. Are they as good as Samsung?

At that level, look at the THG Best SSD Review.

You see that any Sandforce Toggle NAND rates the same as a Samsung 256GB SSD.

The article also explains which ones are Toggle, Sycro, Asyncro SSD.

As you want 256GB, that is the "top of the line" for SSD. However, that Petrol is a poor performer, that why is was cheap.
