OCZ Vertex 3 Maximum Read / Write 350MB/s???

Hello,

I just built a new computer and was really excited about the new SATA 3 SSD drives that are capable of doing up to 550mb/s.

I have the following:

- i7 2600K Chip
- ASUS P8P67 EVO Motherboard
- 8GB of Patriot 1600MHZ DDR3 dual channel
- EVGA GTX470 Videocard
- OCZ Vertex 3 SSD 120GB
- Windows 7 PRO 64-Bit

When I run the HD Tune Pro program to test the speeds I always max out at 350MB/s. My question here is why does it max out at that speed and how can I get or get close to the 550MB/s speeds for read/write.

Am I missing something here?

Thats' excellent. Considering I "only" get about 250-280MB writes with my vertex 2.

What your getting is in the realm of what you should be getting.

Besides, its the Read part that's most important....do you have anything right now that can transfer to your SSD at 350MB/sec?

Also you may want to check if you SSD is aligned if you really are worried about the speed. Check this page out:

By the way which OS do you use? Windows 7 automatically aligns your SSD drive properly, while XP or below does not...

Adam my motherboard being an ASUS uses the marvell drivers for the 6GB/s SATA 3 ports - I've heard only the worst about Marvell.

Thanks for the info. BTW I am using Windows 7 pro 64 bit. I will try the suggestions above - Has anyone out there had better read/write speeds?

ASUS P8P67 EVO Motherboard

Check out the manual for your MoBo - if I'm not mistaken, it has four SATA-6 ports. Two of them are on an Intel controller (gray), and two of them are on a Marvell 9120 controller (blue).

Make sure you're connecting your SSD to one of the Intel ports. You're right that the Marvell 9120 controller is god awful for SATA 6, and can end up crippling your SSD's performance - if you're connected to that one right now, try switching over to one of the Intel ports (preferably with a secure erase / fresh install), and see if that changes anything. I don't know that it will solve your problems, but it's definitely worth a try.
