ODD Drive Woes

My new case doesn't have a drive cage, but I still need to install my mobo's drivers on my PC. To do this I came up with the idea to plug in another SATA power and data cable each to the PSU and Mobo, respectively. These I plugged in to my ODD drive. It will spin and make noises and all, and the bay will open and close, but the PC doesn't recognize it when I put in the disk, and save for when I touch the opener-button the light for the ODD isn't on. What am I doing wrong?

so windows is installed?

do you have a spare pc?

instead of messing with the optical drive, why not do this
create a small partition on the new hdd in pc
take drive out of pc and put in another as secondary
either copy the mobo drivers onto 2nd partition or dl them and put them on it. once you have them all
put hdd back in pc and install drivers

I don't know why its not recognising optical drive but this way bypasses the need for it.

alternate, why not use a usb drive to copy drivers onto pc?

Forget about the old drivers on that CD. It's always best to go to teh manufacturers website look for your MB and download the latest versions. Even if you had a working ODD, this is what you should do.

I did so and got dem on to mah usb drive.
Do I drag them onto the desktop and then run them?

Copy them on your hard drive to have a backup and run them from there.

copy them into download folder as then they all in one place. i try to keep things off my desktop though
