Odd mouse problem

Here is my problem, and no this is not specific to one mouse, ive tried it on two mice:

When i boot up my computer, half the time the mouse does not turn on at the windows xp load screen. i have to restart and then it works. this is very annoying and i have no idea what causes it because its not specific to one mouse. i think it might be something to do with the mouse socket on the mobo but i have not been able to test the usb as default for the mouse because i my usb mouse broke.

any idea what could be the problem here and a possible solution? Thank you

ive had something similar happen with a mouse, it turned out to be the 5v rail on my mobo was sagging really bad. check your voltages.

I'm having the same problem. I also have the same mobo and processor. hmmmm. If it is a voltage problem, can it be fixed without replacing the mobo? Or to be more direct, how did you solve the problem?

my problem turned out to be one of the mobo contacts on the atx power plug had burned out and began to drop the supply of 5 volts to the mobo very rapidly until the system crashed, i had to replace the burned pin and its working fine to this day. the psu is anyway, ive since replaced the board, its ok too. its developed a few quirks but its fine.
