Odd patch cable?

Hi guys, I'm a bit of a fledgling IT minded guy, so I'm keen on learning things as I come across them;

I came across an odd cable, in my opinion, which doesn't SEEM to match to any standard completely. I'm more curious than anything to understand it. The wires colours don't match the T568A or B standards, so I sort of figured it might have been for a specific use.

It has 2 pairs (4 wires): Orange (Pin 1) & Orange/White (Pin 2) and Blue (Pin 6) & Blue/White (Pin 3).

Hopefully the image link works.

They don't crossover either. Like I said, I'm curious as to what it could be used for.

Cheers,

Yes. It seems to operate normally. I had read that others had a similar pin configuration, except where mine has blue/blue-white, theirs was replaced with green/green-white.

Cheers bistwo & unksol.

At least now I can label it to indentify it as such.

The electrical signals can't see the color of the plastic on wire. You can use whatever color wire you like, 50 pair eithernet cable used for patch panels has many more colors.

All that really matters is that the wire is manufacture to the ethernet standard and has the wires in the proper pin locations on the ends.

You can guess this is a ethernet cable that only used 2 pair to save money but if the cable is not marked with a tia/eia number it means the cable likely is not certified.......then again there are Chinese made cables that do have tai/eia markings that do not actually meet the standard when you test them with a tdr meter.
