LOL, ok, ok, I've delved into the absurd. It's "through the looking glass" time. Has anyone seen (or god forbid, tried) overclocking the gf2 ultra? Is there any additional upside potential in it?

Obviously there is little need for it today, but dammit if I spend $400-500 dollars, I want to make sure this puppy hangs tough. (What can I say, Halo has me drooling.)

I don't see why not. But remember that the Ultra is already a highly clocked GeForce 2. The GF2 is reaching it's threshold in clock speeds. That's probably why the NV20 is coming out real soon. =) But hey, someone has got to try it!

Core has been (over)clocked to 270Mhz and sometimes even a bit above, memory hasn't been clocked to my knowledge succesfully over 500Mhz

Ultra has a differant core then the GTS/Pro so the card is not up near its upper limit. I have a Pro that will oc the core to 240 and 475 mem with out a problem and thats with 5ns DDR. The ultra with 4ns DDR should be able to do well over 500 mem with out a problem the core is a differant story. However, given the range of the GTS/Pro core it might be able to pull 275 with out a problem

Well they all have different cores. My point was that soon the GF2 series will be phased out in favor of the NV20. I'd say within 6 months nVidia will start downsizing on the production of the GF2 series. Also, the NV20 runs at 300mhz. I think that's a good indication that the Ultra is at it's limits. If the next generation chip is only running 50mhz faster...

Its stock cooling on the hercules pro card. I usually only have the core up to 235-225. The added core speed above 225 doesnt seem to help fps much if at all. The mem will run 475 fine glitch free. Above that it gets techno color articles sticking onscreen. Quake 3 locks on load at 500 Mhz but runs with severe visual problems between 475 and 495. And yes the card does get very warm, but I dont do it for long. 225 core/475 mem seems to do fine during a game night lan party though. A good 7-8 hours of oc'ed deathmatch fun is good every once and a while.

Threre's no problem in overclocking the ULTRA. I myself has a Asus V7700 ULTRA and it's easily overclocked to 260 /480. I haven't tried anything fancy with the card (like 270/500), so I'm not that qualified to state that the card goes beyond 500mhz (ram). But I do know that Gainward has a Ultra card that comes with 500mhz standard fresh from the package. The cards name is : Gainward CardExpert GeForce2 ULTRA/500 Golden Sample. It's also about 100$+ cheaper than the ASUS card I got.. I just couldn't wait 2 weeks :-(...
