Hey all, My GF just built a computer a few weeks ago, she has been using it often for gaming and a strange noise has begun to occur seemingly at random.
it is a rattling sound that varies from almost not audible to extremely loud, with no seeming cause.
It is a cheap case but everything to our knowledge is tightened.
tapping on the case or putting pressure on it doesn't seem to change anything. the case has a side fan in the window but doesn't seem to be coming from there either.
it seemed to be coming from the back of the case but we haven't been able to narrow down exactly where yet.
it does seem to stop (or at least get less frequent and intense) when the side panel Is removed however which seems very strange.
any ideas? TIA

Her build:
AMD FX8350
AMD RX 480
GA 990FXA MOBO
Corsair CX 600
Seagate 2tb barracuda

Rattling sounds are usually a fan hitting some wires, or the fan rubbing against the side of its casing.

Check the fans and make sure they're clear of all wires.

If the wires are clear, then loosen the screws holding all fans in place (not enough that the fan can fall out, just enough so it can wiggle around). If that makes the rattling go away, then you can tighten the screws again with the case sitting in its final orientation. Usually this problem happens when you install the fans with the case on its side. When you rotate the case upright, it stresses the fan casing in a different direction, causing the blades to hit the casing.

huh, all of the case fans where pre installed by the case manufacturer, the only fan that we did ourselves was a Hyper 212 evo for the cpu, any chance that could be the culprit?
