Ok, so due to getting odd reported CPU temps (15c) I decided to run a few different programs to confirm.

SiSoft Sandra - 36
MBM 5 - 55 (!)
Speedfan - 36?

Presumably, as 28 is reported in all three that is the case temp. So temp2 in speedfan must be the CPU temp. And as for MBM 5, I really hope it's wrong!

Anyone had this before? Which one, if any, can I trust?

MBM lets you adjust the temp sensor used, maybe it's using the wrong one, or a false feed that is giving it bad information. Check and see if you can find something that matches it.

I played around with the sensor that MBM5 is using for 'CPU'. jeez there are loads of them! And then I noticed that changed this setting changes it for everything else. So Speedfan started reporting different temps according the MBM5's settings.

So now I'm not sure which one is the CPU temp. I've got three main temps which are one which stays around 68, another which idles at 15-18 and goes up to anout 30 underload, and the other stays at around 28, with slight increase when the CPU is under load.

Is there any way I can find out the correct name of the CPU sensor?

another thing you could do is check the bios. it should clearly state cpu and system temperature. secondly, the cpu sensor is most likely going to be a diode, not a thermistor. mbm and speedfan list the type of sensors they detect on the smbus. you can cross check that sensor by running prime 95 for a minute and seeing if its temp rises quickly. it will probably be the cpu.

btw i wouldnt use speedfan & mbm at the same time....it does the same thing to me.
