Hi everyone,

I have a DIY desktop rig and am looking forward to installing Windows 7 SP1 Professional 64 bit on it. Since Windows 7 is also included in Microsoft's 'free Windows 10 upgrade' promise, I have been searching on Amazon and have found a seller who is selling OEM Windows 7 serial key along with a CoA label. Some guys before me have tried and succeeded.

Now that I have a DIY rig and the seller only sells OEM keys. Will genuine activation work ? If yes, will my rig also remain genuine after upgrade to Windows 10 using the OEM key printed on the CoA ?

Thank you whoever helps me out,
Cheers

Solution
It should. I've used nothing but OEM keys on my window 7 installs. What happens though is that windows will take it, but it's not genuine. All you'll have to do is call an automated line to activate windows and become genuine. And yes, windows 10 will be genuine too.

Tread carefully; just because he can provide a CoA label that doesn't mean that activation will work. An OEM license is non-transferable and if you have to call Microsoft for activation they're well within their rights to refuse you.

If activation is successful then you'll be eligible for the Windows 10 upgrade, which will be genuine.

An OEM License can only ever be activated on 1 machine. If the OM key has never been activated on another machine, you can absolutely purchase an OEM version of Windows and be 100% legal to install on your machine as valid genuine verson of Windows. However, buying online like this, you take a chance that it might not be a legit, non used license you get, and you are stuck with it.

Calling M$FT ? It sounds scary mate. Do you live in an area with no Internet or sth ?

I am living in the post-industrial world and having Internet connectivity all around me, both wireless and wire. Do I have any options to validate or activate Windows via Internet and NOT having to call M$FT ?

It's just a robot that asks you to say numbers on your screen, then they give you numbers to input. The whole thing takes 10 minutes and I've found its easier to activate that way rather than online. You never speak to an actual person

I heard about a tool name Volume Activation Management Tool 2.0 (VAMT 2.0), official application by M$FT that specialises in checking and verifying Windows 7 product keys. Now that they have released version 3.1, which requires an M$ Express server to operate, whilst the 2.0 does not.

Can some one here help me verifying whether VAMT 2.0 servers still working or not ?

If I use VAMT 2.0 to check the genuity of the seller's OEM CoA, does it work ? Will this reduce the remaining activation count on the product key or not ?

Thanks a lot again
