OEM Windows 7 Question

I bought the OEM System Builders Windows 7 Home Edition x64bit I installed it on to my home built computer. I know want to upgrade the motherboard as I want to get the new AM3+ processor. Can I do this without needing to get a new version of Windows 7?

no promises, but I have call MS before and they helped me when I told them I had exchanged the motherboard due to the old one being broken (fried MOBO due to power surge).

So what did they do? You can just swap it out and then expect windows to run on the new mobo. See I want to upgrade to bulldozer but there isn't anything wrong with my mobo I just need a knew one to run the new CPU.

From when I replaced my motherboard it required me to phone up an automated line with a reactivation code to work on the new hardware.

Depends on whether you bought an OEM copy of Windows 7, or a retail version. OEM copies cannot be transferred to another machine. They are tied to the first machine they are installed on. If you got a retail version (differences referenced in number 6 of this thread) then you can move it from the old computer to the new one.

I know nothing is wrong with you the first MOBO but MS does not know that do they.
