I read Stable's informative post regarding OEM CPU's. I am considering having a system built. All of the following hardware is OEM: IBM Deskstar 75gxp 7200rpm UDMA100, Creative Labs 52x CD-ROM or Pioneer DR115 DVD-ROM 16x40x ("drive only"), floppy drive, Soundblaster live and some choices in graphics cards. Plextor CDRW & motherboard are retail.

How do these hardware OEM's differ from the retail box, other than price? Are they lower quality, similar as to what was explained in the CPU post by Stable?

There is a three year parts and labor warrantee with the PC system.

The Pioneer DVD concerns mean as being a "drive only" & OEM. Does the "drive only" mean no hardware decoding card? If that is so, why would I need it? Will my DVD and CDRW not work in unison?

Thanks in advance.

ATI is one manufacturer among many that offer slower memory on OEM cards.
You don't need a hardware decoder for DVD if you have a good software decoder and a good system unless your multitasking while playing movies.
Your DVD and CDRW will only work in unison if they are on separate chains-IDE runs only one device per channel at a time.
