off-the-shelf mini pc's recommendations needed

Looking for off-the-shelf brand fanless mini pc NOT for gaming but general internet activity, watching streaming videos, some minor video editing. Will install Linux probably Ubuntu. Small form factor *not* a mini tower or similar. What are the general recommendations? Must have hdmi output. Don't want to spend a lot on this - like under $400. thanks

Thank you! As these products seem to come without an OS installed, and generally have rather coarse instructions (manufactured in China and I can't find a manual online anywhere), what is the general method of installing an OS? Same as booting up a normal PC, go into bios and boot from a USB with OS installed?

Also as another general question: is it possible to just plug and play an HDMI monitor to these units?

Its the same as a name brand pc. My friends on the PFSense forum (firewall app) use these, for a heavy workload you might want to have a fan blowing at it though.
